Mbappe 'Not Feeling Well' After Nose Injury
France's coach Didier Deschamps said that captain Kylian Mbappe is "not doing well" after possibly breaking his nose in a 1-0 win over Austria on Monday.
Philippe Diallo, president of the French Football Federation, mentioned that Mbappe does "not need surgery," but the severity of his injury is still unclear.
Late in the Euro 2024 opener in Dusseldorf, Mbappe headed the ball and his face collided with Kevin Danso's shoulder. Mbappe, 25, received treatment for a bloody face and then left the field, with France planning to substitute him with Olivier Giroud.
However, play restarted before France could make the change, so Mbappe re-entered the field without permission and sat down, earning a yellow card before being replaced by Giroud.
Deschamps commented after the match, "He's not doing well. His nose was badly hit. We need to check it, but it seems serious. The medical staff are assessing him. I saw him on the massage table; he didn't look good. It's uncertain at this moment."
Mbappe, who has scored 47 goals in 80 games for France, is key to their chances of winning a third European title. He contributed to France's only goal, causing Max Wober to score an own goal.
Mbappe, who hasn't scored in the Euros yet but has 12 World Cup goals, will join Real Madrid from Paris St-Germain this summer.
When asked if Mbappe might miss the next game against the Netherlands on Friday, Deschamps said, "I'm not speculating, but the French team is always stronger with Kylian. If the news is not good, we will have to manage without him."
